Mentorship

As part of the Future Leaders of Hospitality Program, each HCF student is paired with a member of the board for the duration of their college education. The program provides the students with personal advice, academic assistance and access to unique job and internship opportunities during monthly in-person meetings or video chats. The HCF board is comprised of more than 20 of the top food and beverage and hospitality executives in the city.

Students also receive mentorship and guidance from the HCF staff, which oversees the academic counseling, financial distribution, etiquette and interview training and overall functionality of the foundation.

After meeting with my mentor, Ken I began to anticipate the many things I'll learn under his wing. The reason I say this is because whenever we meet it is during his work hours and I'll be side by side whenever he has to work on something. The second meeting we had together, he took me through multiple professional meetings allowing me to get a feel of what its like on the inside. One of the key points I learned from Ken so far was teamwork and communication and I can't wait to learn so much more!

Bruce is a diligent individual with years of experience and knowledge in his back pocket. I've spoken to Bruce many times in the past, and one thing he always made sure to instill in me is the importance of staying curious. By being curious, you always want to know the "why" behind many things, and that leads to asking the right questions. Your curiosity becomes your strength, and that strength turns into knowledge.

Tahje Hutchinson, Nick Trujillo, Director, Global Partnerships, Vegas Golden Knights

Nick has taught me the importance of being proactive and being a better leader to those around me. He expressed great interest in my growth and continues to fuel me every step of the way. Being a leader is about identifying the strength and weakneses of your team and placing them in positions to be successful in any and everything you do. I believe that Nick is a great example of that because he cares about those around him and bringing success to the table. He is a vital reason why I'm where I am today as I continue to progress and make the most of the opportunities that are coming my way.

Marisa's time management skills are incredible! Because she know's what is most important to her and what items on her agenda have to be completed before others. Marisa is able to make time for the things she needs to do and for the things she wants to do, like cooking with her family. I see Marisa as an amazing role model, not just for myself, but for anyone that dreams of starting their own business, making long-lasting relationships, and viewing their job as not something they have to do, but something they love to do."
